Certifiers DVGW CERT and Kiwa and German water and gas sector association figawa will work together on the development and management of a database for raw materials used in products and equipment for drinking water. This Raw Materials Database should shorten the approval process of raw materials, which saves manufacturers costs and importantly reduces the time to market.

Every year, several newborn babies are abandoned in the Netherlands. Stichting Beschermde Wieg (Protected Cradle Foundation) is a volunteer organization which helps pregnant women who avoid regular care by providing accessible preventive help and guidance to prevent babies from being abandoned or killed. The IEC System of Conformity Assessment Schemes for Electrotechnical Equipment and Components (IECEE) recently appointed Kiwa to carry out assessments and certifications in the context of the series of standards IEC 62443. Kiwa was already partially accredited, but this accreditation has now been expanded to include even more parts of the standard. To qualify for this allocation, Kiwa successfully completed the IECEE Certification Body Testing Laboratory (CBTL) and National Certification Body (NCB) audits.

The new version of ISO 27001 was published on 25 October 2022. A transition period of three years applies and certified organizations must therefore have switched to ISO 27001:2022 on  November 1st 2025. Below we have listed the most important information about the transition process.

Kiwa has issued the first KiwaGreen certificate to Hundhausen Kunststofftechnik GmbH in Achim, Germany. The company that specializes in plastic pipes for among others power and water supply and data transfer has set a long-term goal (2030-2050) to become energy or climate-neutral. The certification indicates that Hundhausen is actually applying a responsible and sustainable value chain.

The new (voluntary) Kiwa 20% Hydrogen Mark for natural gas appliances burning up to 20% Hydrogen admixture, using EN15502 as the reference standard.

Hydrogen produced from renewable energy sources can make an important contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. When hydrogen gas is to be transported through the existing gas pipelines, the safety level has to be at least the same as for the transportation of natural gas. This means that important safety questions need to be answered, for example when it comes to the leak tightness of pipes and components that are used with hydrogen gas.

In the coming year, Kiwa will sponsor Forze Hydrogen Racing, the student team that specializes in racing on hydrogen. Kiwa not only supports Forze financially, but also contributes in the form of advice and validation of hydrogen systems. Forze Hydrogen Racing has been developing hydrogen racing cars since 2007 and wants to promote hydrogen as the fuel of the future in the automotive sector.
