New BRL K17504/04 binding as of 14 January 2026

As of 14 January 2026, the revised evaluation guideline BRL K17504/04 for vulcanised rubber products for cold and hot drinking water has been officially declared binding.

This version replaces BRL K17504/03 (2018), including the 2021 amendment.

What has changed?

  • New structure & layout: The guideline has been rewritten in the Kiwa 2025 template for improved clarity and consistency.
  • Expanded definitions & classifications: Additional focus on sealing principle (Type A/B), temperature classes (I, II, III), hardness, and ozone class (1, 2, 3).
  • Alignment with ISO 9631: Requirements and test methods are now harmonised with the international standard NEN-ISO 9631:2018.
  • Clearer tables & annexes: All requirements per type and class are presented in clear tables; annexes for O-rings and test methods have been updated.

Why this update?

With this revision, BRL K17504 is even more closely aligned with current practice, international standards, and the latest insights into product quality.

The changes are mainly clarifications and have no impact on existing certificates.

Evaluation guideline changes

An evaluation guideline or ‘Beoordelingsrichtlijn’ (BRL) is a package of requirements that a product or service can meet to demonstrate a certain guarantee of quality and legality. Kiwa offers BRLs in various subject areas. The requirements in a BRL are drawn up by an independent Board of Experts. A product or service is assessed by Kiwa on the basis of those requirements. When we introduce a new BRL or when a BRL changes, we will publish these BRL's.
