BRL-K519/06 published for criticism
A revised version of BRL-K519 “Kiwa product certificate for PVC-P geomembranes with or without reinforcement” has been prepared and is now available for public criticism.
The Board of Experts for Plastics in Ground, Road and Hydraulic Engineering (CvD-KGWW) has established a criticism period of six weeks from the date of publication. Interested parties are invited to review the draft BRL-K519/06 and submit their comments during this period.
The main changes in BRL-K519/06 compared with BRL-K519/05 are as follows:
- Editorial changes throughout the BRL: The document has been aligned with the current Kiwa BRL template. Several sections have also been reworded to improve readability, consistency, and clarity, without changing the technical requirements.
- Revised thickness requirements: The following requirements have been updated to better reflect current practice.
- Preferred nominal thicknesses have been removed.
- The minimum coating thickness for reinforced Type MB geomembranes used in non-load-bearing applications has been reduced.
- The minimum geomembrane thickness requirements for reinforced MB and for Type BV geomembranes have been removed.
- Updated material controls: The pyrolysis test has been removed relying instead on raw material verification, including formulation checks performed during surveillance audits.
- Additional performance requirements: A requirement for static puncture resistance according to EN ISO 12236 has been introduced, in line with the Protocollen voor het toepassen van kunststof geomembranen voor bodembescherming en gas- en vloeistofbarrièrelagen.
- Revised surveillance audit frequency: The surveillance frequency has been set at three audits per year.

Evaluation guideline changes
An evaluation guideline or ‘Beoordelingsrichtlijn’ (BRL) is a package of requirements that a product or service can meet to demonstrate a certain guarantee of quality and legality. Kiwa offers BRLs in various subject areas. The requirements in a BRL are drawn up by an independent Board of Experts. A product or service is assessed by Kiwa on the basis of those requirements. When we introduce a new BRL or when a BRL changes, we will publish these BRL's.
