Certification IKB Chicken (IKB Kip)

Transparency regarding the production, quality and origin of poultry meat is becoming increasingly important within the food supply chain. IKB Chicken (Dutch: IKB Kip) plays a central role as a quality assurance system for the poultry sector. Within IKB Chicken, all links in the chain are included, from breeding farms and hatcheries to broiler farms, slaughterhouses and processing companies. The system therefore ensures control over the entire chicken production chain. Kiwa VERIN provides independent IKB Chicken certification for all involved parties within the chain.

What is IKB Chicken?

IKB (Integrated Chain Control, Dutch: Integrale Keten Beheersing) Chicken is a private quality assurance system focused on safeguarding:

  • Food safety
  • Animal health
  • Animal welfare
  • Traceability

The system demonstrates that poultry meat is produced according to established standards and controlled processes. IKB Chicken is internationally applicable and widely accepted within the poultry sector and retail chains.

Chain approach within IKB Chicken

IKB Chicken is based on an integrated chain approach. This means that all links in the production chain must comply with the IKB standards:

  • Breeding and multiplication farms
  • Hatcheries
  • Broiler farms
  • Slaughterhouses
  • Processing facilities

This chain-wide approach ensures that the quality and safety of poultry meat are structurally safeguarded.

IKB Chicken standards

Specific IKB standards are defined for each link in the chain. Certified companies are audited annually for compliance with these requirements. The standards include, among others:

  • Business operations and administration
  • Animal welfare and housing conditions
  • Animal health and monitoring
  • Medication use and antibiotic policy
  • Hygiene and food safety
  • Traceability throughout the chain

Audits are conducted both announced and unannounced.

Certification by Kiwa

During the IKB Chicken audit, Kiwa VERIN assesses whether your organisation complies with the applicable requirements of the scheme. The inspection consists of two main parts:

  • A physical on-site inspection, including barns and ante-rooms
  • An administrative review of records and processes

This ensures that poultry products are produced safely, traceably and in accordance with the established standards.

Combined audits and efficiency

Kiwa organizes audits as efficiently as possible. Where feasible, we conduct combined audits. This means that multiple quality schemes are assessed during a single visit. Examples of combinations include:

  • Better Life Label (BLk)
  • QS
  • Other relevant chain assurance schemes

This reduces the audit burden for companies and increases efficiency across the chain.

Application for IKB Chicken
